Box Score

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team maintained at least a share of the lead in the Centennial Conference standings with a dominating defensive effort at Swarthmore College on Saturday, holding the Garnet to a negative hitting percentage while posting a season-high for blocks in a match. The victory boosts the Bullets to 7-1 in the Centennial with just two regular season contests remaining on the schedule.

Gettysburg, now 15-10 overall, entered the weekend in a three-way tie atop the conference standings with Johns Hopkins University and Haverford College. The Blue Jays and Fords were each in action on Saturday against eighth-place Bryn Mawr College and fourth-place Dickinson College, respectively.

Swarthmore (6-17, 2-6 CC) managed a lowly attack percentage of -.009 thanks to 26 hitting errors against just 25 successful kills. Most of that damage was thanks in part to 10.5 team blocks by Gettysburg, topping the team's previous season high of nine against Susquehanna University.

Despite the mismatch at the net, the Garnet hung in the opening two sets, losing only 25-22 in each frame. The Bullets put Swarthmore away quickly in the final frame, committing only one hitting error against 10 by the hosts en route to a 25-9 decision.

Six Bullets recorded at least two blocks on the day with junior Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) totaling seven to go with six kills and five digs. Junior Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) tallied three block assists and a team-high nine kills, while senior Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) also managed a trio of blocks with five kills.

Sophomore Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) posted six kills and a pair of blocks, including one solo effort. Junior setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) had a hand in a pair of blocks, while accruing 26 assists, three kills, and nine digs. Freshman Jamie Huffman (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) rounded out the Bullets' block effort with a pair of block assists to go with four kills.

Junior libero Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) led the campaign from the back row with 23 digs and posted one service ace. Freshman Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) recorded nine digs.

Gettysburg's final two conference matches are against two teams vying for the final two playoff spots. The Bullets visit fourth-place Dickinson on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m., before closing the week at home against fifth-place Muhlenberg College on Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m.
