Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson College scored a pair of second-half goals less than three minutes apart en route to a 2-0 victory over visiting Gettysburg College in a Centennial Conference women's soccer match on Tuesday, Oct. 28. The loss drops the Bullets to 4-4-1 in conference play with one match remaining on the regular season schedule.

Gettysburg, 5-6-5 overall, surrendered more than one goal in a contest for just the second time this season against Dickinson (10-3-3, 6-2-1 CC). The Bullets managed more shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, but a pair of attempts by freshman Sara Montague (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) and one by senior Whitney Odell (Andover, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) were saved by Red Devil keeper Kailyn Hartman. On the other end of the pitch, Gettysburg senior goalie Danielle St. Pierre (Londonderry, N.H./Trinity) stopped a pair of shots, the last coming in the 42nd minute.

Freshman Sam Hellerman (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) came out with a pair of shots for the Bullets in the second half with Hartman thwarting the latter. Dickinson responded in kind by pelting St. Pierre with three-straight shots on goal, but the senior keeper was up the task with a trio of stops.

The hosts finally cracked the scoring column in the 64th minute when Gettysburg was called for a foul in the box, awarding a penalty shot to the Red Devils which Sarah Casey took and converted. Dickinson added to the advantage just over two minutes later when a shot by Sara White was stopped by St. Pierre, but rebounded to Victoria Bratt who kicked home the insurance goal at 66:06.

Hellerman posted three more shots in the final 16 minutes of regulation with Hartman coming up with a pair of stops.

Dickinson held a 20-8 advantage in the shot department and took six more corner kicks (8-2) than Gettysburg. Hellerman paced the Bullets' offense with five shots, while Montague finished with a pair. St. Pierre made a match-high seven saves in the loss.

Genevieve Olsen and Casey each took four shots for Dickinson, while Hartman recorded six saves.

Gettysburg retains its seventh-place position in the conference standings, just two points removed from Ursinus College in fourth and one point behind Muhlenberg College and Franklin & Marshall College in fifth. Ursinus and Muhlenberg were slated to play on Tuesday but had their contest postponed until Wednesday, Oct. 29, because of weather. The Bullets need to win their home match on Saturday against Muhlenberg at 4 p.m., while receiving positive results from Wednesday and Saturday's matches featuring Ursinus, Muhlenberg, and Franklin & Marshall.
