GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team saw its 2008 season come to a close in a 0-0 tie against Muhlenberg College in Centennial Conference action Saturday evening at Clark Field.

The Bullets, who recorded their seventh shutout of the season, conclude the year with a 5-6-6 record and a 4-4-2 mark in Centennial Conference play.

Gettysburg entered the contest needing a win to have a chance of making the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Muhlenberg (10-4-4, 5-2-3 CC) will enter the conference playoffs as the fourth seed.

The Mules held a slim 5-3 advantage in shots in the first half before turning up the heat in the second period, when the visitors out-shot Gettysburg 12-5. But that's when senior Danielle St. Pierre (Londonberry, N.H./Trinity) made four of her six saves.

In the first overtime, each team took one shot but the Bullets managed the only shot on goal when junior Kerry McKenna (Sharon, Conn./Kent School) had her header saved by Muhlenberg keeper Michelle Toher.

Gettysburg had another shot early in the second OT but freshman Chloe Zeltman's (Nesconset, N.Y./Smithtown) header was blocked. The Bullets stayed alive with just under a minute left when St. Pierre deflected a shot from the left side before freshman defender Katie Richards (Huntsville, Ala./Huntsville) kicked away a ball that was headed for the goal. But the Mules gained possession and held on for the tie.

Toher finished with four saves for Muhlenberg.

For the season, Gettysburg was outstanding defensively, holding all but two of its opponents to zero or one goal.
