Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomores Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) combined for 37 points to help Gettysburg College take down Dickinson College 73-58 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Tuesday night inside Bream Gym.

The victory marked the Bullets' first in conference action, evening their league mark at 1-1 and upping their overall record to 3-2. Spicer poured in a career-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 7-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe, while Moser was nearly perfect from the floor with a 7-for-8 performance en route to 18 points.

Dickinson (2-3, 1-1 CC) entered Tuesday's contest riding a three-game winning streak over Gettysburg, including taking both regular-season meetings last year. The Bullets took that fact into consideration and responded unkindly with the first seven points of the game, including an old-fashioned three-point play by junior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).

The Red Devils were down, but not out as their patented hard-nose defense slowed Gettysburg's onslaught. Dickinson pulled to within one at 11-10 just under eight minutes in and managed a tie at 19 on a Brooke Muller three-pointer at 8:31. The Bullets refused to surrender the lead, however, tallying each of the next six points en route to taking a 34-27 lead at the break.

After shooting just over 30 percent in the opening stanza, the Orange & Blue came out on fire to start the second half, taking their seven-point margin and boosting it to 18 (50-32) at 13:07. Moser accounted for seven of her team's 16 points during the run and later in the half tallied her 500th career point, becoming the fastest Bullet to reach that mark. She accomplished the milestone in just 33 games, topping the previous record of 34 held by the school's all-time leading scorer, Jennifer Bengel '06.

Dickinson managed to whittle the deficit down to single-digits as a lay-up by Carole Dempsey made it 63-55 with just 2:29 to play. The Red Devils opted to foul down the stretch, but Gettysburg was up to the challenge as Drechsler, Spicer, and Moser combined to connect on 10-of-14 shots from the charity stripe to seal the win.

Gettysburg out-rebounded Dickinson 40-33, including 14-9 on the offensive glass, and forced the Devils into 31 turnovers in the game. The Bullets shot a blazing 65 percent in the final stanza and finished 22-of-30 from the free throw line. The hosts tallied a season-high 16 steals on the night, led by Moser's career-high six.

Drechsler also reached double-figures with 11 points, while freshmen Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) and Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each tallied seven points. Kinsley and McGrory also led the way on the boards for Gettysburg with 11 and six, respectively, the former adding three assists.

Laura Lyons led Dickinson with 15 points, while Muller posted 10 points and four steals.

Gettysburg moves on to its first conference road game with a trip to Ursinus College on Saturday, Dec. 6. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
