Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as No. 9 Gettysburg raced out to a 22-5 lead en route to a 67-50 victory over Dickinson College in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams Wednesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.

Gettysburg (4-0, 1-0 CC), which trailed for only the first 1:16 of the game, also received nine points and nine rebounds from senior forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti [Md.]). Senior guards Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) and Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) added 10 points apiece while senior guard Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) dished out six assists.

Senior center Tom Leszczynski led Dickinson (3-1, 0-1 CC) with 22 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Kizmahr Grell added 10 points.

The Bullets pushed their home and regular season winning streaks to 14 games.

A jumper by sophomore guard Matt Dolan put the Red Devils up 2-0 less than a minute into the game, but it would turn out to be the team's only lead of the night. Powers tied it up with a jumper at the 18:44 mark before putting the Bullets in front to stay on a fastbreak lay-up with 17:34 to go.

The Bullets were a sizzling 6-for-7 from three-point range in the opening half, and they went to the long shot early. After missing its first three-point attempt, Gettysburg canned its next six trifectas, with four coming during its early run. Nevolo and Powers both dialed long distance before Dorsey splashed home a trey to make it 22-5 with 12:41 left in the half.

It was a 27-13 game with 7:37 left before the Devils climbed back into it with an 11-0 run. A Leszczynski bucket pulled Dickinson to within single digits (27-18) and his lay-up with 4:47 on the clock made it a one-possession game at 27-24.

However, that's as close as Dickinson would get, and Gettysburg answered with a 9-2 run over the remainder of the half to assume a 38-26 advantage at the intermission. Sophomore guard Paul Crone (Braddock Heights, Md./Middletown) kicked off the surge with a conventional three-point play before Powers knocked down his second trey of the half. Powers then converted a lay-up before sophomore forward Kevin Kennedy (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) drilled a three 23 seconds before the horn.

Gettysburg shot 58.3% from the field in the opening half while holding Dickinson to 31.3% shooting.

The Red Devils never seriously threatened the rest of the way and were unable to get closer than eight. It was a 40-32 game with 15:54 to go before the Bullets broke it open with a 15-4 run over the next 5:35 to take an insurmountable 55-36 lead with 10:19 left.

The Bullets cooled off from three-point range in the second half, going just 2-of-8. However, Dickinson was unable to hit a three in the second stanza and finished 1-for-16 from beyond the arc.

Gettysburg shot 57.8% for the game while Dickinson finished at 35.0%.

The Bullets play their first road game of the season on Saturday, when they visit No. 21 Ursinus College in a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference championship game and NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.
