Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It came down to the final game of the season, but the Gettysburg College women's basketball team made it count on Saturday in Bream Gym with a 66-54 victory over visiting McDaniel College to secure the fourth seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament. Freshman Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) led the way for the hosts with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

McDaniel (13-12, 11-7 CC) will make the trek back up Route 97 on Wednesday to face Gettysburg (16-9, 12-6 CC) as the fifth seed in the first round of the conference tournament. The time for that contest will be announced on Monday. The winner of that game will then travel to No. 1 seed Franklin & Marshall College for the semifinals and finals of the tournament next Saturday and Sunday (March 1-2).

The Bullets managed their first season sweep of the Green Terror since 1996-97 by limiting the visitors to just 14 points and 20.7 percent shooting in the opening half. McDaniel, which came into the game leading the Centennial Conference in free throw shooting at 74.6 percent, connected on just 2-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe in the first stanza. Despite the porous shooting, the Green Terror jumped in front 5-4 on a jumper by Robbin Gregg at 15:59 before the hosts scored 14 of the next 17 points to secure a 10-point advantage (18-8) at the nine-minute mark.

After McDaniel trimmed the deficit to 20-14 at 4:36, Gettysburg closed the first half with an 11-0 run, including three buckets by Moser, to take a comfortable 31-14 lead into the locker room.

The double-digit advantage held throughout the second half, though the Green Terror whittled the spread down to 10 (48-38) with a 9-0 run down to 9:32. Sophomore Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and freshmen Kelley Andersen (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) halted the run dead in its tracks with a three-pointer and lay-up in the next 30 seconds to push the margin back to 53-38 with nine minutes remaining. The lead grew to as many as 18 before the final buzzer.

Moser posted her second consecutive and fourth overall 20-point game, finishing 9-of-16 from the field and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. It was also her sixth double-double on the year. Drechsler tallied 14 points on six field goals, while Andersen came off the Bullet bench for her second double-digit scoring effort of the season with 10 points.

Sophomore Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) shook off a cold night from the floor to finish with eight points, five rebounds, and four steals, while Megan Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) netted six points and three assists. Sophomore Caroline Funchion (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) put in an impressive showing on the glass with 10 boards, including four on the offensive end.

The Green Terror committed 24 turnovers in the contest which led to 19 Bullet points. McDaniel did improve in the shooting department, finishing at 35.1 percent, but the squad only connected on 50 percent (12-of-24) of its free throw attempts. Ali Moreland led the Green Terror with 13 points and six rebounds, while Courtney Gogolinski posted 10 points and five boards. Robbin Gregg finished with six points, four rebounds, and four assists.
