GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior guards Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) and Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. John's at Prospect Hall) combined for 49 points and five players accounted for all of Gettysburg's scoring as the Bullets picked up their fifth win in a row, defeating Dickinson College 75-51 in Centennial Conference action Wednesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.
Gettysburg (16-3, 11-2 CC), which also picked up its sixth straight home victory, never trailed after outscoring Dickinson (10-9, 6-7 CC) 11-2 to start the game. A Dorsey jumper with 9:40 left in the first half gave the Bullets a 19-8 lead, and they would maintain a double-digit advantage the rest of the night.
At 16-3, Gettysburg, which swept its season series with Dickinson, has posted its second-best record in school history through 19 games. The 1938-39 team finished the season 17-2.
Capkin finished with 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-8 marksmanship from downtown. Dorsey shot 11-for-18 and totaled 24 points while freshman center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) added 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Junior forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) totaled six points while freshman forward Kip Robson (Richmond, Va./Douglas Freeman) had one point. Junior guard Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) handed out five assists.
Cory Kenny was the only Red Devil to score in double figures, finishing with 11 points.
The Bullets connected on 52.5% of their shots for the night while holding Dickinson to 36.7% shooting.
It was the Capkin and Dorsey show in the early going, as the pair scored Gettysburg's first 21 points while the Bullets built a 21-11 lead. Gettysburg saw its lead hit 20 (35-15) following a Powers jumper with 3:35 on the clock, and his lay-up with 1:00 to go pushed the Bullets advantage to 25 (43-18). Kenny dropped in a lay-up just before the buzzer to make it a 43-22 game at the break.
The Devils were unable to reduce the deficit under 19 in the second half, and a 9-0 Bullet run gave Gettysburg a 29-point bulge (72-43) with 7:01 remaining.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they visit Muhlenberg College at 2 p.m.
