GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) ripped down a career-high tying 15 rebounds and scored a team-high 13 points to lead Gettysburg College past Bryn Mawr College 71-28 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action from Bream Gymnasium.
Gettysburg (13-8, 9-5 CC) posted its best defensive effort of the season against Bryn Mawr (4-18, 1-14), holding the Owls to just nine field goals on only 17 percent shooting from the field. Bryn Mawr, which came into the game shooting a league-best 35 percent from beyond the arc, went 0-of-16 from three-point land in the game. The Bullets scored 21 points off 19 turnovers and out-rebounded the visitors 60-34.
Fields, who went down in the opening minute of Gettysburg's earlier meeting with Bryn Mawr, did all her damage in just 22 minutes, tying her career high for boards set in the season opener against Marymount University. Megan Hartman (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) contributed 10 points and six assists with no turnovers, while freshman

Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) joined Hartman with no turnovers on the afternoon. She posted nine points, three rebounds, and five assists.
Bryn Mawr held the early advantage with a lay-up by Jessica Allen and a free throw by Shanika Bridges-King to start the contest, but the Bullets reeled off a 14-0 run, half of which came courtesy of Drechsler. The Owls whittled the deficit down to eight several times in the opening period before a 10-0 streak by the hosts put the score at 28-10 at 3:30. Caroline Funchion (Devon, Pa./Conestoga), who polished the glass for seven rebounds in the opening half alone.
The margin doubled at the outset of the second half as Gettysburg mounted a dominating 22-0 run, sparked by Fields and Moser who put in 11 and six points, respectively. The lead dipped to 40 only once in the final stanza with the Bullet reserves playing the majority of the final 10 minutes.
After getting out-boarded in its last three contests, Gettysburg put in a dominating effort on the glass as every player grabbed a rebound. Funchion finished with a career-high nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end, in addition to scoring six points. Margaret White (Burke, Va./James W. Robinson) came off the bench for a pair of three-pointers.
Allen, the CC's third-leading scorer and rebounder, tallied 13 points and 10 rebounds. She connected on only 3-of-18 field goals, but went 7-of-12 from the charity stripe. Bridges-King finished with seven point and five rebounds.
Gettysburg, which remains in a dogfight in the middle of the conference standings, will face a key test when it goes on the road to face Johns Hopkins University (10-10, 8-6 CC) on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. The Bullets beat the Blue Jays 68-38 inside Bream Gym earlier this season.
