Neumann Box Score | Elizabethtown Box Score

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Gettysburg College softball team dropped its first two games of the season on Wednesday, March 5, as the Bullets fell 10-8 to Neumann College and 4-1 to Elizabethtown College. With the setbacks, Gettysburg falls to 3-2 on its spring trip.

In the first game against Neumann, the Bullets drew first blood in the second as Ali Iacobucci (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) drew a lead-off walk and came around to score on a bases loaded pass to Heather Sagaities (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). The Knights turned the tables in their next at bat, capitalizing on four walks by Bullet pitcher Beth McCullough (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) to score four runs and take their first lead. Gettysburg cut the deficit with a run in their half of the third and added a run in the fourth courtesy of a solo home run by Erin Ober (Lutherville, Md./Dulaney), but Neumann plated three runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings and three more in the top of the seventh to gain a 10-3 advantage.

Gettysburg battled back with six consecutive walks and a two-run single by Ober in the seventh to close to within two, but the Knight's pitcher induced a fly out to centerfield with a pair of Bullets on the base paths.

Against Elizabethtown, Gettysburg managed three hits and one run in the first two innings, but the lineup went stagnant over the final five frames, managing only one hit and four base runners. Freshman Megan Lott (Bellsville, Md./Pallotti) put the Bullets out in front early with a run-scoring single in the second.

The Blue Jays finally figured out freshman left-hander Alyssa Karl (Springfield, N.J./Jonathan Dayton) in the fourth frame and tallied a pair of runs. They added an unearned run in the fifth and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth for the win.

Gettysburg continues play from Myrtle Beach with a pair of games on Thursday, March 6. First, the Bullets battle Juniata College at 9:30 a.m. followed by Frederick Community College at 11:30 a.m.
