Box Score

BALTIMORE – For the second game in a row, No. 15-ranked and Centennial Conference leader Johns Hopkins University pounded out 18 hits and the Blue Jays swept the season series from Gettysburg with an 18-4 victory Friday afternoon.

Johns Hopkins (20-4, 8-1 CC) smacked three home runs, including a pair of two-run jacks in an 11-run fourth inning. The Blue Jays also defeated the Bullets 10-5 in Gettysburg on Tuesday.

Gettysburg (14-15, 6-4 CC) was held to five hits, although sophomore Kevin Langhauser (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) and junior Scott Vladyka (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) each blasted their first collegiate home runs. Vladyka finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Matt Benchener led the Blue Jays, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs.

The Bullets went ahead 1-0 in the top of the first against Hopkins starter Ryan Kuhlman when Langhauser launched a two-out, solo shot to center. But the Blue Jays tied it up with a three-hit second before their monster fourth inning, when they ripped nine hits and sent 15 batters to the plate. The inning was extended by a pair of two-out errors that led to seven runs.

Gettysburg cut the deficit to 11-4 in the sixth when Vladyka clouted a three-run homer to left-center off reliever Greg Harbeck. But that would be the final Bullet hit of the game, as Harbeck, Nick Eradi, and Henry Striegl blanked Gettysburg the rest of the way.

Junior Will Kleva (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) started and last 3 2/3 for the Bullets. Kleva (4-2) suffered his first loss since March 21. Sophomore Matt Zwaan (Berwyn, Pa./Malvern Prep) came on to throw a scoreless eighth in just his third appearance of the season.

Kuhlman (4-1) went five innings while holding Gettysburg to one run on four hits. He fanned six.

The Bullets return to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, when they host Muhlenberg College in a doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m.
