HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team rebounded from its first loss of the season with an easy 15-3 victory over host Haverford College in Centennial Conference action on Saturday. The Bullets improved to 13-1 overall this spring and maintained their perfect record in conference play at 6-0.
Eleven players found the scoring column as the visitors fired off 41 shots at the Haverford (5-6, 1-4 CC) goal. Sophomores
Hollis Stahl (Hightstown, N.J./Peddie School) and
Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) each scored three goals and added one assist, with the former notching two caused turnovers. Seniors
Katie Ceglarski (Darien, Conn./Darien) and
Krissy Browning (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) each contributed one goal and one assist for Gettysburg.
One day removed from a 17-13 loss to No. 4 College of New Jersey, Gettysburg wasted no time in jumping on the board as sophomore
Lauren Woodman (Denver, Colo./Kent) scored the opening goal just 31 seconds into the contest. Stahl added another goal about a minute later to put the visitors up 2-0 before the Fords got on the board.
After three more Bullet goals, Haverford scored their final tally of the first period at 10:48, cutting the margin to 5-2. That would be the closest the Fords would get the rest of the way as Gettysburg reeled off an 8-0 run to close the first half and start the second, including three goals by Hearn and senior defender
Callie Gates' (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) first goal of the season.
Nearly every available body saw time on the field for Gettysburg. Nine players tallied one goal for the Bullets, including freshmen
Heidi Bitter (Darien, Conn./Westminster) and
Beth Mounsey (Chapel Hill, N.C./Western Albemane). On the defensive side of the field, junior
Sara Tolner (Pasadena, Md./Severn School) posted two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while senior
Kara Tammany (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scooped up two ground balls and caused one turnover.
Freshman
Laura McIntyre (Glenmoore, Pa./Coatesville) made eight saves en route to improving to 4-0 this spring, while fellow first-year
Laura Block (Leesburg, Va./Foxcroft School) played the final eight minutes of the game without giving up a goal.
The Bullets only have three conference games remaining on their schedule, all of which will take place on the friendly confines of Clark Field. Gettysburg begins its stretch run on Wednesday, April 9, against McDaniel College in its only night game on the 2008 schedule. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
