Bullets Sweep Final Day of Wingate INNvitational, Yoder Earns All-Tourney Nod

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team opened its final day of competition at the Wingate INNvitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College with a first-set loss to the University of Massachusetts-Boston, but the Bullets rebounded in a big way with six straight set victories over the Beacons and the host Marlins to close the opening weekend with a 3-1 record.

After falling to UMASS-Boston 25-20 in the opening set, Gettysburg returned the favor in set number two with a victory by the same score. The Bullets pulled out a contested 26-24 win in the third frame, before settling in for a 25-17 decision in the match-clinching set. Junior Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) led the attack with a dozen kills and chipped in defensively with six digs, while sophomore Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) added nine kills, 12 digs, and two blocks. Junior setter Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) tallied four kills, two aces, and a weekend-high 38 assists in the victory.

Gettysburg closed the day with a convincing 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-21) victory over Virginia Wesleyan in the afternoon. Yoder and junior Kristina Mercier (Baltimore, Md./Mount de Sales Academy) each recorded 10 kills, while senior Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) notched nine kills and two blocks. Krampf polished off a productive weekend with seven kills, four digs, two blocks, and 36 assists.

Yoder picked up her first career selection to an all-tournament team by totaling 31 kills over the four matches played.

Gettysburg returns to the friendly confines of Bream Gymnasium for the first of back-to-back tournaments next weekend. The Bullets will play host to 18 teams from around the country as part of the Battlefield Classic on Sept. 5-6. Opening matches are slated to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday.
