Box Score

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – One day removed from a five-goal outburst against Marymount University, the Gettysburg College men's soccer team failed to muster much of a threat against host University of Mary Washington as the Eagles defeated the Bullets 1-0 in the final match of the UMW Soccer Classic on Sunday.

History indicated Sunday's match up would be a tight-knit affair as Mary Washington (2-0) had won five of the last six meetings by just one goal, including a 1-0 victory last fall. Gettysburg (1-1) managed just three shots at the Eagle goal after pounding out 19 against Marymount on Saturday. Mary Washington, meanwhile, put on the pressure with 10 shot attempts, including seven on goal, and eight corner kicks. The Eagles eventually found the mark early in the second stanza when T.L. Tutor touched the back of the net in the 60th minute.

Tutor accounted for half of Mary Washington's shot total, while Preston Hirten managed three shot attempts. Junior Jeff Sapolsky (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) fired the only shot on goal for Gettysburg which was stopped by Emmett Rutkowski. Senior Adam Finkel (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) made six saves for the Bullets.

Gettysburg resumes action on Saturday, Sept. 6, with a non-conference road trip to the University of Scranton for a 1 p.m. match.
