GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College opened with a convincing 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent College to open the final day of its own Blast Tournament, but Carnegie Mellon University turned the table on the hosts with a three-set sweep in Saturday's final match. Junior libero
Kristin Kotewicz (Columbia, Md./River Hill) copped all-tournament honors for Gettysburg which fell to 6-5 overall on the season.
After dropping its first match of the tournament to a formidable squad from Daemen College, the Bullets were on the rocks early against Saint Vincent (7-2), trailing by as many as five points in the opening set. The tide quickly turned in favor of the hosts as a furious rally sparked by several well-placed kills drove the way to a 25-19 win. Gettysburg also trailed in the final two frames against the Bearcats, but the rally monkey continued its rant as the Orange & Blue won those sets 25-21 and 25-20, respectively.

Stephanie Rickabaugh (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) paced the attack with a dozen kills against no errors in 22 attempts. Senior
Meghan McConville (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) pounded down eight kills, while sophomore
Kate Yoder (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) notched seven. Junior setter
Amanda Krampf (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) tallied 31 assists and a pair of aces and Kotewicz led the defensive effort with 11 digs.
Following a grueling five-set loss to Daemen in their second contest on Saturday, Carnegie Mellon came out with a purpose against the Bullets and wrapped up a sweep with scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-19. The Tartan front-row attack connected on nearly 30 percent of its attempts, led by Caroline Size with 10.
Meghan McConville led the way for Gettysburg with seven kills, while freshman Caitlin McConville (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane), no relation to Meghan, posted six kills. Krampf also tallied six kills to go along with 19 assists and 13 digs. Kotewicz was once again consistent in the back row with 19 digs and chipped in offensively with five assists and a pair of service aces. For the weekend, the junior averaged an impressive 4.7 digs per set and led the team with six aces.
Joining Kotewicz with all-tournament honors were Rachael Bowler and Kristine O'Hara of Daemen, Aislinn McCloskey of Carnegie Mellon, and Taylor Guido of Saint Vincent.
Gettysburg will begin its Centennial Conference schedule when it next takes the court as the Bullets host Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, Sept. 20, as part of a tri-match with St. Mary's (Md.) College. The Bullets and Owls will start the day at 11 a.m.
