Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Chris Bayon (Langhorne, Pa./Lawrenceville School [N.J.]) scored Gettysburg's first two goals to lead the Bullets past Eastern University 3-1 in non-conference men's soccer action Wednesday evening at Clark Field.

Gettysburg (4-2-2) was out-shot 14-10 but senior goalie Adam Finkel (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) stopped five shots in goal for the Bullets.

With his two goals, Bayon increased his career total to 33 and moved into fourth on Gettysburg's all-time list. He also moved into sixth on the school's career scoring chart with 76 points.

Bayon gave his team a lead it would not relinquish in the fifth minute. Following a corner kick, junior Geoff Menge (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) flicked a pass in the box to Bayon, who one-timed it into the left corner. Then just over three minutes later, Bayon struck again with a spectacular goal. From the inside right of the box, he chipped a pass to himself, then kicked it out of midair and into the upper left for his fifth goal of the season to make it a 2-0 game.

The Eagles pulled to within one in the 29th minute, when Ryan Castle buried a free kick from 35 yards out. But despite out-shooting the Bullets 7-3 in the opening period, Eastern trailed 2-1 at the half.

Junior Ryan Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) gave Gettysburg an insurance goal in the 70th minute, taking a cross from the left baseline from classmate Ryan Peiffer (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and one-timing a shot into the bottom left for his second tally of the season.

Both sides took seven shots during the second stanza.

Michael Dorsch made a pair of saves in net for the Eagles.

Gettysburg resumes its Centennial Conference schedule on Saturday, when it visits Muhlenberg College at 7 p.m.
