GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Facing its second straight top-10 opponent, the 14th-ranked Gettysburg College field hockey dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 8 Lebanon Valley College Wednesday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.

The Bullets (5-2), who were dealt a 3-2 loss to No. 8 Johns Hopkins on Friday, nearly matched Lebanon Valley (7-1) on shots, as the Flying Dutchmen held a slim 16-15 advantage. But junior goalie Caitlin Baro made nine saves to earn her third shutout of the season for LVC, a Division III Final Four participant in each of the past two seasons.

Gettysburg was shut out for the first time in 22 games. The Bullets had not been blanked since their 4-0 loss to Christopher Newport on Sept. 6 of last season.

Lebanon Valley, which received goals from five different players, struck three times in the opening half. Alex Wolfe put the Dutchmen on the scoreboard 15 minutes in, beating two defenders on a breakaway. Jocelyn Novak followed up with a deflected shot with 10:51 left in the period, prompting a Gettysburg timeout.

The Dutchmen were awarded a penalty stroke with 1:29 remaining in the half, and Avery Carter converted to make it a 3-0 game at the intermission.

Shelly Lobach ripped in a shot from 10 yards out with 27:21 left before Danielle Blase set the final tally when she scored on a scramble with 24:26 remaining.

The Bullets had ample scoring opportunities in both periods, out-shooting LVC 10-7 in the first half and holding a 10-3 surplus in corners in the second stanza.

Junior Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./The Calverton School) finished with a career-high six saves for the Bullets.

Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Saturday, visiting Haverford College at 1 p.m.
