Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Senior Emily Harwood (Rockville, Md./Magruder) scored with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation to push the 14th-ranked Gettysburg College field hockey ahead 4-3 and deny host Haverford College's upset bid in a Centennial Conference match up Saturday afternoon. The victory ended a two-game slide by the Bullets and improved their record to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Following back-to-back losses to top-10 ranked foes, Gettysburg trailed Haverford (4-4, 1-2 CC) twice on Saturday and was on the verge of its first three-game losing streak in four years. After senior Savannah Ruth (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season at 1:55, the hosts came firing back with back-to-back goals in the 9th and 23rd minutes to grab a one-goal advantage. The Bullets managed to knot the score at two before the end of the half as junior Molly Latta (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) tapped in her first goal of the season at 25:51.

The Fords took their second lead with under 10 minutes gone by in the second half as Margaret Selsor scored her eighth goal of the year at 44:51. Gettysburg dominated all offensive aspects of the contest with 17 more shots and an 18-3 advantage on penalty corners and it was only a matter of time before the Bullets broke through. Their opportunity came in the 57th minute when Latta scored for the second time in the contest. The pendulum continued its swing as Harwood tossed in the go-ahead goal and her sixth score of the season just under three minutes later. Haverford forced one corner over the final 10 minutes of the contest, but the Bullets regained offensive control and spent the final minutes controlling the ball near the Fords' goal.

Junior Christina Anderson (Dunkirk, Md./The Calverton School) made a trio of saves for Gettysburg, while Haverford keeper Maggie Cronin made a dozen stops.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Franklin & Marshall College at 4 p.m.
