Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The scoring combination of Steven Tenenzapf and Matthew Cecconi connected twice and Muhlenberg College handed Gettysburg its first Centennial Conference loss, blanking the Bullets 3-0 in men's soccer action Saturday evening in Scotty Wood Stadium.

Tenenzapf, who also dished out an assist, scored in the 15th and 46th minutes. Cecconi assisted on both tallies as the Mules handed Gettysburg (4-3-2, 1-1 CC) its first Centennial Conference loss of the season. Tenenzapf's two goals were his first of the season, and Cecconi's assists were also his first in 2008.

The Bullets held a slim 4-3 edge in shots in the opening half, but goalie Joseph Gogel made both of his saves in the first 45 minutes for Muhlenberg (6-2, 2-0 CC). Tenenzapf scored what held up as the game-winning goal when Cecconi fed him a diagonal cross from the top right corner of the box. Tenenzapf buried the Mules second shot of the game to make it 1-0.

Gettysburg's only two shots on goal came over the final 22 minutes of the first half. But Gogel turned aside a shot from junior Pete Lynch (West Chester, Pa./Haverford School) in the 23rd minute and a header from junior Ryan Shaffer (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) in the 36th minute to come away with his third straight shutout and fifth of the season.

Tenenzapf and Cecconi hooked up again just 24 seconds into the second half, with Cecconi delivering a pass from the end line to a waiting Tenenzapf on the far post.

Tenenzapf set up Muhlenberg's final goal when he intercepted a goal kick in the 86th minute and crossed it to Cody Antonini, who lofted a shot into the upper left to set the final score.

Muhlenberg held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the second half, when senior Adam Finkel (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) made both of his two saves.

Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday, when it visits Franklin & Marshall College in a rare 8 p.m. start.
