READING, Pa. – Gettysburg outscored Juniata 16-2 to start the game and never looked back, and the Bullets advanced to the Albright Tournament Championship game with a 70-53 win over Juniata College Friday evening at the Bollman Center.

The Bullets (5-2) will face the winner of the other first-round game between Albright and Brooklyn at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Senior guard Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds for Gettysburg while moving into seventh on the school's all-time scoring list. He passed Curtis McNeil '02 and raised his career total to 1,227. Sophomore center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) notched 17 points and 12 rebounds, good for his second straight double-double. Senior forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti [Md.]) added nine points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five blocks.

After Juniata's Justin Baker converted a layup 21 seconds in, the Bullets reeled off the next 16 points, holding the Eagles scoreless over a 6:53 stretch. Gettysburg maintained at least a 12-point advantage the rest of the way, and a lay-up from senior guard Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) gave the team its largest lead of the half (38-17) with 1:01 left in the opening period. Juniata scored the final four points of the half to make it 38-21 at the break.

The Eagles pulled to within 14 on three occasions early in the second half, but an 11-2 Bullet opened up a 23-point lead (54-31) with 12:29 left after a Capkin lay-up. Juniata came back with a 12-4 surge to make it a 15-point game (58-43) with 8:09 showing, but the Eagles managed to draw one point closer the rest of the way.

Dave Thompson scored 12 points to lead Juniata (2-8), which was held to 33.3% shooting from the field. Justin Baker added eight points and eight rebounds while Eric Mueseler had eight points and five boards. The Eagles managed only five foul shots, making three.

Gettysburg shot 50.0% from the field and went 9-for-12 at the charity stripe.
