HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomores
Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) and
Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) nearly equaled the total offensive production by host Haverford College with 30 combined points, leading Gettysburg College to a 62-38 victory in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Moser finished with a game-high 17 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Spicer tallied 13 points, five assists, and two steals. The duo was an efficient 11-of-16 from the field and 7-of-10 at the free throw line in the contest and combined to out-score Haverford (3-11, 2-8 CC) 18-14 in the first half alone.
Coming off its biggest win of the season, Haverford jumped out to a 6-3 advantage just under four minutes in, but back-to-back buckets by Spicer and Moser sparked a 12-0 run by Gettysburg (9-8, 6-4 CC), marking the only lead exchange in the contest. The Bullets ended the stanza on an 18-2 run, including six points from Spicer, to take a 37-14 lead into the locker room.
The visitor's lead mounted to as many as 33 (62-29) in the second half.
Gettysburg scored 24 points off 27 Haverford turnovers in the contest. The Bullets also held a 51-34 advantage on the glass, with 17 caroms coming on the offensive end, and limited the Fords to just 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the floor.
Junior
Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) pumped in nine points for Gettysburg, including knocking down a three-pointer for the 12th consecutive game. She now has 110 for her career, tying her for fifth all-time in school history.
Freshman
Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) added to the Bullets' rebounding edge with eight caroms, while junior
Caroline Funchion (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) and freshman
Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each corralled five boards, including three on the offensive end.
Natalie Richman led Haverford with 10 points, while Brittany Lattisaw added five points and a game-high 10 boards. Kathleen Abels posted eight points and five rebounds for the hosts.
Gettysburg, which came into Saturday in a four-way tie for third in the conference standings, returns to action with a key conference road game at second-place McDaniel College (10-7, 8-3 CC) on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m.
