Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College led visiting Washington College by just one point with 5:20 remaining in the teams' Centennial Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday, but the host Bullets scored 10 of the final 12 points in the contest, including nine by sophomore Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing), to polish off another key conference win.

The victory moved Gettysburg (11-8, 8-4 CC) into a temporary tie with McDaniel College (10-7, 8-4 CC) for second place in the CC, with the Green Terror visiting league-leading Muhlenberg College (15-3, 12-0 CC) later Saturday afternoon. Moser keyed the hosts with a season-high 27 points, including 17 in the second half. She notched a career high for field goals made with a dozen in 21 attempts and finished with seven rebounds. Freshman Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) turned in a career performance against Washington (9-8, 4-7 CC), tying her personal best with 11 points and grabbing a career-high eight rebounds.

Gettysburg jumped out to a 12-point lead in the second half and led 54-44 with 8:46 to play. Washington clawed its way back into the contest with a 10-1 run as Meghan Tait provided half the offense with a lay-up and a conventional three-point play. Trailing 55-54, the Shorewomen had a chance to take the lead, but a three-pointer by Jane O'Donnell was off the mark at 4:41.

As Washington's shots missed their mark in the final minutes of the game, Moser's attempts found nothing but nylon. Following a missed three-pointer, Moser grabbed the offensive rebound and put the ball through the hoop, kicking off a personal 6-0 run. Fouled on a three-pointer, O'Donnell nailed two of three attempts from the charity stripe to cut the margin to 61-56 with 2:44, but the Bullets prevented any second chances by controlling the glass on the defensive end. Moser and sophomore Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) sealed the win with four free throws.

The first half of Saturday's contest was tightly contested as both teams struggled to find their offense. Gettysburg managed a late surge in the half as Moser and Dadigan combined for eight points to lift the hosts from a one-point lead (16-15) to a seven-point lead (24-17) at 4:24. Washington closed to within three on a three-pointer by Brianne Slizofski with 11 ticks left, but junior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) converted a lay-up as time expired to put the Bullets up 32-27 at the half.

Gettysburg held Washington to just 33.3 percent shooting from the floor (21-of-63) and posted its sixth-straight game with a rebounding advantage, grabbing 49 to the Shorewomen's 39. The Bullets also dished out 20 assists, while committing just 15 turnovers.

Drechlser tallied all nine of her points in the first half and added seven rebounds and three assists. Freshman Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) provided a spark for Gettysburg in the second stanza by nailing all four of her field goal attempts and finishing with eight points and four rebounds. Spicer dished out seven assists, while junior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) posted five helpers.

Slizofski led Washington with 18 points and nine rebounds. Tait tallied 15 points, while Meghan Lepley posted seven points and six rebounds.

Gettysburg resumes action next Thursday, Feb. 5, with a road trip to Dickinson College (10-8, 7-4 CC). Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Carlisle, Pa.
