GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg College earned its first victory of the New Year with a stifling defensive effort on Wednesday night in Bream Gym, holding visiting Bryn Mawr College to just eight field goals and forcing 35 turnovers en route to a 68-21 victory in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.

Gettysburg (6-5, 3-1 CC) came up with 23 steals in the contest, marking its highest total since swiping the same number against Bryn Mawr (1-8, 0-5 CC) in 2004. Senior Margaret White (Burke, Va./James W. Robinson) tripled her previous personal best with six steals in addition to nailing a pair of three-pointers as part of an eight-point night. Sophomore Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) led the Bullets with a dozen points, grabbed five boards, and totaled four steals, while junior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) tallied eight points and three steals.

The Owls took an early 6-5 advantage out of the gates following a jumper by Andrea Zambetti at 14:10, but Gettysburg forced the visitors into turnovers on their next six possessions, leading to a 7-0 run by the hosts. After Bryn Mawr cut the run with a pair of free throws, White sparked a 13-0 spurt with her first three-pointer of the night at 10:48 as the Bullets' lead jumped to 25-8 with three minutes left in the first half.

Leading 32-10 at the close of the opening period, Gettysburg kept the pressure on early in the final stanza and built its advantage to 30 on a putback by freshman Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) at 13:34. The margin continued to grow as the Bullets' bench attacked the hoop for 21 points and 16 offensive rebounds in the second half alone.

Gettysburg scored 28 points off turnovers and converted a season-high 20 fast-break points. The reserves played a major role with 36 points on the night. Dadigan tallied seven points and grabbed six rebounds, all on the offensive glass, while junior Nicole Dobranski (Albertson, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) also scored seven points. Freshman Brittany Jones (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) put five tallies in the scorebook and junior Caroline Funchion (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) recorded four points and five boards.

Emilie Naccarato led Bryn Mawr with seven points, while Jessica Allen grabbed nine rebounds.

Gettysburg draws a rematch with nationally-ranked and conference front-runner Muhlenberg College in its next contest, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 10, at 4 p.m. in Allentown, Pa. The Mules, ranked No. 23 (tie) in the latest coaches poll, beat the Bullets 72-63 on Nov. 25, however, Gettysburg won the last bout in Memorial Hall 71-57 early last season.
