Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa – Sophomore center Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while senior guard Corey Dorsey (Frederick, Md./St. John's at Prospect Hall) added 14 points on 10-of-10 foul shooting as the Bullets knocked off 13th-ranked Franklin & Marshall College 72-60 in a Centennial Conference affair Wednesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.

Gettysburg (15-8, 10-7 CC) clinches its ninth straight Centennial Conference playoff berth with the win and can finish no worse than fourth in the final conference standings. The Bullets can still finish third and receive a first-round bye but would need to win its final regular season game and have Ursinus defeat Muhlenberg on Saturday.

F&M (21-3, 14-3 CC), which received a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds from sophomore forward James McNally, saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end.

Senior guard Dan Capkin (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion) added 12 points for Gettysburg while senior forward Joe Spierenburg (Chambersburg, Pa./St. Maria Goretti [Md.]) also reached double figures, scoring 11 points. Senior guard Chris Nevolo (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville) contributed five assists and a career-high four steals.

Freshman guard Georgio Milligan and sophomore guard Anthony Brooks added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for F&M.

The Bullets shot 91.3 percent (21-for-23) at the foul line, their best performance since going 11-for-12 against SUNY Geneseo on Nov. 22, and Dorsey made six straight free throws inside the final minute. He became the first player since David Glaser '05 in 2005 to go 10-for-10 at the charity stripe.

As they did in their first meeting this season with the Dips, the Bullets fell behind early and trailed 16-9 seven minutes into the contest. But that's when Gettysburg broke out with a 15-0 run to assume an eight-point lead with 8:49 to go in the half. Powers kicked off the spurt with a lay-up and accounted for seven points during the stretch.

A jumper from sophomore center Chip Naddaff (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) with 3:40 left in the half gave Gettysburg its largest lead (31-18) of the night, and a Nevolo lay-up with 32 seconds left made it a 35-25 game at the break.

Powers enjoyed a perfect first half for the Bullets, when he recorded 15 points and eight rebounds. He was 6-for-6 from the floor and 3-for-3 at the foul line in the opening period.

Franklin & Marshall shot just 1-for-7 at the foul line in the first half.

The Diplomats made a run to get back into it midway through the second stanza. A 9-0 run, which was started by three straight Brooks jumpers, whittled an 11-point deficit down to two (50-48) with 9:22 on the clock after a McNally lay-in. F&M trailed by only five following another McNally basket with 5:01 to go, but that's as close as the Dips would get.

McNally made it a seven-point game after a pair of foul shots with 1:41 left, but F&M managed only two points the rest of the way.

Gettysburg shot 55.8 percent for the game and held a 32-27 rebounding advantage. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, where the Bullets were 3-for-14 and the Dips were 0-for-9.

Gettysburg concludes the regular season on Saturday, when it hosts McDaniel College at 2 p.m. on Senior Day.
