CARLISLE, Pa. – Gettysburg College led by four points at the end of the first 20 minutes of play at rival Dickinson College, but the second 20 minutes of action went against the visitors as the Red Devils canned 17 attempts from the free throw line en route to a 70-60 decision in Centennial Conference women's basketball action Thursday (Feb. 5) night.

Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomore
Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) led Gettysburg (11-9, 8-5 CC) with 13 points apiece. Drechsler added five assists and five rebounds, while Moser grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.
The Bullets scored the game's first five points and controlled most of the first half, leading by as many as 11 (20-9) following a three-pointer by senior
Margaret White (Burke, Va./James W. Robinson) at 8:56. Despite shooting a paltry 8-of-27 (.296) from the floor in the opening stanza, the hosts clawed their way back into the game and pulled to within four (27-23) on a bucket by Alesha Sisco right before the horn.
In the second half, Dickinson (11-9, 8-5 CC) cut the deficit to one on several occasions, but Gettysburg maintained its advantage until a jumper by Brooke Muller put the hosts up 41-40 just past the midway point of the period. Freshman
Sara Kinsley (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) answered right back with a field goal on the other end to regain the lead for the visitors by one with 9:36 to go.
The Red Devils finally pushed through in the final period with a 13-0 run down to the six-minute mark as Gettysburg committed four turnovers on its next six possessions. Dickinson's lead dipped to six (62-56) on a lay-up by junior
Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) at 1:19 before five consecutive free throws by Taylor Miller boosted the host's advantage back to double-figures with 40 seconds left.
Gettysburg shot a better percentage than Dickinson from the field (.453 to .382), but for the first time in seven games, the Bullets were beaten on the boards (33-32). The visitors also committed 24 turnovers and went to the free throw line only 11 times compared to 25 attempts by the hosts.
Fields and freshman
Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) tallied eight and nine points, respectively, for Gettysburg before fouling out late in the contest. Freshman
Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) was also plagued with foul trouble, but managed to score seven points in just eight minutes of action.
Most of Dickinson's offensive production came from a trio of players. Sisco led all scorers with a game-high 21 points and was perfect (9-of-9) at the free throw line, while Muller and Laura Lyons each added 17 points. Sisco and Lyons each notched a double-double as well with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Thursday's conference results reinforced a growing logjam in the standings as Gettysburg, Dickinson, Franklin & Marshall College (11-9, 8-5 CC), Swarthmore College (11-9, 8-5 CC), and Johns Hopkins University (10-10, 8-5 CC) all moved into a tie for second place in the standings, with McDaniel College (10-9, 8-6 CC) just half a game behind. The only team with a clear picture of where it stands is Muhlenberg College (18-3, 14-0 CC), which clinched the top seed for the CC Tournament with a victory on Thursday at Bryn Mawr College (2-18, 0-14 CC).
The Bullets will visit last-place Bryn Mawr for a conference match up on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m.
