BRYN MAWR, Pa. – After netting just 11 points in the first 10 minutes of action at Bryn Mawr College, the Gettysburg College women's basketball team exploded for 29 points to close the opening stanza and open an insurmountable lead against the Owls, eventually pulling away for a 70-51 victory on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Saturday's win by Gettysburg maintained at least a three-way tie for second place in the Centennial Conference standings between Gettysburg (12-9, 9-5 CC), Dickinson College (12-9, 9-5 CC), and Franklin & Marshall College (12-9, 9-5 CC), with Johns Hopkins University (10-10, 8-5 CC) potentially joining the crowd pending its result against Haverford College (4-13, 3-10 CC) later in the afternoon.

The Bullets put in a well-rounded effort at Bryn Mawr as all 13 players in uniform saw game time with all but one getting into the scoring column. Junior Courtney Fields (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) paced the effort with 13 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Julie McGrory (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tied a season best with a dozen points and added six boards. Junior Allie Drechsler (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) rounded out Gettysburg's double-digit scorers with 10 points.

Bryn Mawr suffered a 68-21 setback at Gettysburg on Jan. 7, but the Owls put in a strong show in the early going and led by as many as three (6-3) just over five minutes into the contest. The Bullets finally shook off a sluggish shooting performance midway through the half and following a Bryn Mawr tie at 13 at 8:58, scored eight consecutive points in less than two minutes to take a 21-13 lead.

After the hosts pulled to 24-18 at the five-minute mark, Gettysburg turned up the heat with a three-point barrage as McGrory and Fields each hit a pair of deep balls in the final minutes, the last giving the Bullets a comfortable 15-point margin (40-25) at the break.

Gettysburg's lead never dipped below 13 in the second period and reached the 20-point mark on Fields' team-high third three-pointer of the night at 11:24, giving the visitors a 56-34 edge. Another triple by freshman Molly Holt (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) handed the Bullets their largest lead of the day at 66-39 at 5:38.

Bryn Mawr managed a better shooting day than Gettysburg, canning 42.1 percent of its attempts to the Bullets' 40 percent, but the visitors owned a 42-23 advantage on the glass. Nineteen of those rebounds came on the offensive end, leading to a significant 18-2 edge in second-chance points.

Sophomore Caitlin Moser (Wyomissing, Pa./Wyomissing) was held below double figures for just the second time this season as she finished with eight points. She also contributed six rebounds, four on the offensive end, and three assists. Fellow sophomore Mary Spicer (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) also pitched in eight points with a team-high four assists, while freshman Lauren Dadigan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) chipped in with six points.

Jessica Allen led Bryn Mawr with 16 points, six assists, and two blocks, while Emilie Naccarato and Caroline Heffernan posted 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Gettysburg returns to the friendly confines of Bream Gym for its next conference affair against Johns Hopkins on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. The Blue Jays won the initial meeting this season 62-50 on Jan. 13.
