ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Gettysburg College tossed in 13 of the first 14 goals as the fourth-ranked Bullets raced past host Muhlenberg College 16-5 in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
Gettysburg (5-1, 2-0 CC) was led by sophomore
Lindsay Menton who netted a season-high three goals and four points. A season-high nine Bullets found the back of the net in all with sophomores
Lindsey Robinson and
Haley Stauch and freshmen
Kelsey Markiewicz,
Grace Ciolfi, and
Bailey Beardsley each recording a pair of scores.
It took some time for the visitors to get in the groove as Gettysburg missed its first five shots, but the squad eventually lit the lamp twice in a span of 19 seconds as freshman
Loren Pruitt tossed in a goal at 21:40 followed by fellow first-year
Katie Blumenthal at 21:21.
The Bullets tacked on two more scores before Muhlenberg (4-3, 0-2 CC) managed its first tally by Danielle Rosen at 11:24. That would turn out to be the Mules' only goal in the game's first 45 minutes. Meanwhile Gettysburg dialed in with a nine-goal run as Robinson, Markiewicz, and Beardsley each scored twice.
Muhlenberg rattled off three-straight goals, including Rosen's second and third of the game, to cut the margin below double-figures (13-4), but Gettysburg ended with three of the final four goals to ice the game.
Gettysburg out-shot the hosts 34-19 and forced the Mules into 29 turnovers. The two teams split 22 draw controls.
Defensively, senior
Becky Lutz and junior
Lexi Kelly each tallied two caused turnovers. Lutz also corralled a team-high five draw controls, while Kelly paced the team with five ground balls.
Junior goalie
Maddie Coleman earned the victory in goal for the Bullets. Coleman made six saves while allowing just one goal in 41:02.
Gettysburg returns home for its next contest, a conference match up with Dickinson College on Tuesday, March 29, at 7 p.m.
