GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ursinus kept the score tight in the opening period of play, but the fourth-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team surged past the Bears in the final period en route to a 19-9 victory at Clark Field on Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied 5-5 with less than a minute before the end of the first half, Gettysburg (10-1, 6-0 CC) out-scored Ursinus (7-5, 3-2 CC) 14-4 over the final 30:50. Sophomore Loren Pruitt led the offense with five goals, while senior Hannah Church posted four tallies. Junior Lindsey Robinson logged a team-high six points on three goals and three assists.

With former Bullet All-American Katie Hagan '07 at its helm, Ursinus pushed the defending national champions early and took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Kitty Dawson at 20:35. Pruitt returned the advantage back to the hosts with back-to-back goals and Katie Blumenthal added a free-position goal to make to make it 4-2 at 14:31.

The Bears produced three of the next four scores to force a five-all tie at 6:45. Church came through with the final tally of the first period with 50 seconds left to put Gettysburg in front 6-5.

The Bullets added four more goals to start the final stanza. After Blumenthal connected off a pass from Robinson at 27:52, the junior took the ball to the net herself scoring just 10 seconds later to set the score at 10-5.

Ursinus closed to 10-7 with back-to-back goals by Emily Diehl, but Gettysburg answered with a seven-goal run to put the upset bid out of reach. Pruitt turned in three of the team's final four goals.

After an 18-18 tie in shots in the first half, Gettysburg out-shot the visitors 24-8 in the final period. Ursinus held an 18-15 edge in ground balls, while the Bullets led in draw controls 16-14.

Blumenthal finished with three goals and one helper for Gettysburg, while freshman Bridget Kenny turned in one goal, three assists, and five draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Maddie Coleman made eight saves for the Bullets. Junior Kat Nestor  and sophomore Paige McKenna each scooped up three ground balls, while fellow defenders Alex Casey and Kelly Spieker each tallied two caused turnovers.

Amber Moyer led Ursinus with three goals and Diehl added two goals and two assists. Riley Pembroke kept the Bears close with 11 of her game-high 18 saves in the opening period.

Gettysburg hits the road for its next contest at Catholic University on Wednesday, April 11, at 4:30 p.m.
