MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Junior Jared Leon (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) made the most of his return to the starting lineup, picking up a pair of decisions to lead the Gettysburg College wrestling team at the Millersville University Mid-Penn Duals on Saturday.
 
Gettysburg (4-12) dropped both of its outings to Division II schools. The Bullets fell 28-15 to host Millersville to start the day before falling to Shippensburg University 42-6 in the consolation bracket.
 
Last year's Centennial Conference runner-up at 174 pounds, Leon made the most of his debut at 184 pounds on Saturday. He scored a 3-2 win over Daniel Cox from Millersville and closed with a 5-0 victory over Jimmy Knapp from Shippesnburg. The junior had missed the first half of the season due to an injury.
 
Sophomore Zach Thomson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) also picked up a pair of wins on the mat. Thomson took out Millersville's Dane Woodruff by fall in the third round (6:04) and picked up a 6-1 decision over Shipp's Bobby Scheivert. The sophomore is now 18-2 on the year.
 
Junior Matt Spano (Wappinger's Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and freshman Manny Markantone (Murrysville, Pa./Kiski School) each scored decisions against Millersville. Spano downed David Charles 5-4 at 141 pounds, while Markantone picked up a 6-3 win over James Shields at 165.
 
Gettysburg returns to action with a pair of events on Saturday, Jan. 26. Part of the squad will head to Messiah College for an invitational that begins at 10 a.m. The other contingent will begin conference competition with a tri-match involving Ursinus College and host United States Merchant Marine Academy at 11 a.m.
