COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's basketball team's defense of its Centennial Conference title hit an early speed bump on Wednesday night as the Bullets were upended 51-33 at Ursinus College inside Helfferich Hall.

The game was close in the opening half as the two squads traded the lead seven times. Senior Caroline Murphy (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) knocked down a jumper to give Gettysburg (2-1, 0-1 CC) a 14-13 advantage with 7:47 left in the opening half. That would be the Bullets' last lead of the night as Ursinus (2-1, 1-0 CC) came right back 22 seconds later with a lay-up by Caroline Shimrock. The score was tied twice more before the hosts tallied the final four points to head into the break with a 22-18 lead.

A 9-0 run to start the second half gave Ursinus a 31-18 lead with 13:46 remaining in the game. Back-to-back three-pointers by Katie Earley (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and Alyssa Isler (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solebury) sliced the deficit to seven (31-24), but a 7-0 run by the Bears boosted the advantage back to double-figures with less than nine minutes to play.

Gettysburg was held to just 21.7 percent shooting from the field in the game. The Bullets finished 10-of-46 from the floor, including 3-of-11 from beyond the arc. Urisnus won the rebound battle 42-38 and forced the visitors into 19 turnovers.

Isler finished with nine points to lead Gettysburg. Murphy added eight points and six rebounds, while sophomore Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) turned in six points and nine rebounds.

Diamond Lewis posted 14 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals for Ursinus. Jessica Porada added a dozen points, while Shimrock tallied 10 points.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 23, with a road trip to Swarthmore College. The Bullets face the Garnet at 1 p.m.
