GETTYSBURG, Pa. – It took all of 21 seconds for the Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team to officially ring in the 2013 season as the Bullets easily dispatched No. 13 University of Mary Washington 12-2 at Clark Field on Thursday.

Gettysburg (1-0), ranked fourth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III preseason poll, poured in the game's first eight goals. Junior Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) started the barrage with the first goal of the season at 29:39. Sophomore Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) followed up 28 seconds later with senior Lindsey Robinson (Potomac, Md./Holton-Arms) logging her second-straight assist.

Pruitt and classmate Kelsey Markiewicz (Salisbury, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) each scored twice to lead Gettysburg to a 7-0 lead at the half. Mary Washington (1-1) had no answer on its offensive end, tallying just four shots, while committing 11 turnovers in the opening period.

The visitors finally broke the scoring column with 28:24 left in the game on a shot by Angela Sperbeck. Sperbeck would add a free-position goal later in the half, but those would be the only tallies against freshman goalie Lindsay Clinton (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) who finished with seven saves.

Pruitt tossed in two more goals in the second period to finish with four in the game. After dishing out five assists, Robinson hit the back of the net with only three seconds in the contest. Sophomore Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) posted three goals, while junior Bailey Beardsley (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) handed out a pair of assists.

Defensively, senior Lindsay Menton (Ellicott City, Md./Glenelg Country School) posted three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Senior Hayward Sawers (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) recorded six ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers, while senior Mairead McGuirk (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) closed with three draw controls, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

Gettysburg finished with a 31-15 advantage in shots and a 23-17 lead in ground balls. With the victory, the Bullets reached 120-straight victories over teams ranked outside the national top 10.

Gettysburg faces the Welsh National Team in an exhibition on Friday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. at Clark Field. The Bullets next intercollegiate contest will take place at home against No. 10 Messiah College on Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m.
