Box Score CLERMONT, Fla. – After surrendering the first two goals, top-ranked Gettysburg College ran off the next 14 on the way to an 18-8 decision over SUNY Oneonta in women's lacrosse action at the National Training Center on Tuesday.
One day removed from combining for nine goals against No. 18 Ithaca College, seniors
Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and
Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) combined for eight goals against Oneonta (0-2). Buell added two assists, while junior
Samantha Aiello (Sparks, Md./Maryvale Prep) recorded one goal and five assists.
Taylor Casey put the Red Dragons in front with a pair of goals in the first 2:28. Just over a minute after Casey's second tally, junior
Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) struck for Gettysburg. It only took 22 seconds for the Bullets to pull even as Kenny found Buell for the equalizer.
Aiello dished out an assist on four of the next five tallies, including a pair of helpers to Kenny. Aiello ended the first half with an assist to Kenny with 59 seconds left to give Gettysburg an 11-2 lead.
The Bullets continued to press on the gas pedal with three more goals to start the final period. After Buell scored at 28:22, junior
Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) won the ensuing draw control and flipped it to classmate
Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) for a score just seven seconds later.
After Oneonta stopped the run, freshman
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) and Connolly scored back-to-back tallies to put Gettysburg ahead 16-3 with 20:07 on the clock.
Connolly finished with two goals, one assist and six draw controls. Baigelman and Borucki scored a pair of goals, while sophomores
Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) and
Katelyn Neillands (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each scooped four ground balls.
Sophomore
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) posted five saves and junior
Caroline Gordon (La Canada, Calif./La Canada) finished with four stops over the final 16:48.
Gettysburg finished with the lead in shots (26-23), ground balls (17-10), and draw controls (18-10).
Gettysburg remained unbeaten heading into a marquee matchup with No. 3 SUNY Cortland (1-0) this Saturday at 1 p.m. on Clark Field. The Bullets sit atop the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Poll, while the Red Dragons hold the top spot in the national poll released by
Lacrosse Magazine. This will be the first regular-season meeting between the two programs. They have met three times in the NCAA Tournament with Gettysburg winning the last meeting 13-11 in 2011.
