McDaniel Rallies Past Gettysburg

Green Terror cap 73-60 victory with 22-3 run

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel College erased a six-point deficit with a 22-3 run over the final 5:45 to gain a 73-60 victory over Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action inside Bream Gym Wednesday night.
 
McDaniel (15-3, 10-1 CC) maintained its grip on first place in the conference standings, while Gettysburg (12-4, 6-4 CC) slipped into a tie for fourth.
 
After trailing the Green Terror throughout most of the first quarter, the Bullets took command in the second period. A three-pointer by senior Kim Ryan (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) kicked off a 7-0 run to end the first half and give the hosts a 34-29 lead heading into the locker room.
 
The Bullets maintained the upper-hand in the third quarter with the lead reaching seven on three occasions. Each time Gettysburg appeared poised to pull away, McDaniel answered, usually in the form of the conference's leading scorer Lindsey Nichols. Nichols accounted for 11 of McDaniel's 18 third-quarter points as the period ended with the hosts leading 52-47.
 
Gettysburg's lead reached six (57-51) on a putback by senior Emily Duggan (Marmora, N.J./Ocean City) with 6:03 to play. McDaniel came storming back with Nichols contributing 10 of the team's final 22 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer which made it 60-57 with 4:37 to play. The Bullets had no answer, going 0-of-8 from the floor with five turnovers during McDaniel's game-ending run.
 
Gettysburg shot 24-of-53 (45.3 percent) from the floor and out-rebounded McDaniel 34-32. The Green Terror out-scored the Bullets 36-18 in the paint and picked up 18 points off 19 turnovers.
 
Sophomore Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) posted 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Gettysburg. Senior Jessica Porter (Narberth, Pa./Lower Merion) and freshman Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) each tallied 13 points with the latter going a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor. Porter added eight boards and five assists.
 
Nichols finished 11-of-27 from the floor for a career-high 33 points. She also posted five rebounds and three steals. Karli Zeps posted nine points, nine rebounds, and four steals, while Brittney Davis added nine points and four assists.
 
Gettysburg visits Washington College (3-13, 0-10 CC) this Saturday at 4 p.m.
