ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Sixth-ranked Gettysburg College held Muhlenberg College to its lowest offensive output of the season as the Bullets knocked off the Mules 14-4 at Scotty Wood Stadium Friday night.
Muhlenberg (7-2, 0-2 CC), which dropped its second consecutive game after a 7-0 start, was held 12 goals below its season average coming into Friday night's contest. Gettysburg (8-1, 2-0 CC) also held the Mules to season lows in shots (16), free-position shots (3), and draw controls (6).
After stopping the hosts on the opening possession thanks to a pair of saves by junior goalie Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), the Bullets jumped onto the scoreboard 73 seconds into the game as sophomore Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) tossed in an unassisted tally. Muhlenberg tied the game shortly after, but a 3-0 run by the visitors broke the tie.
The Mules closed the gap to 6-3 on a goal by Stephanie D'Ascoli with 13:04 remaining in the first half. That ignited a seven-goal streak by Gettysburg kicked off by back-to-back tallies by sophomore Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep). Senior Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) scored the last goal of the first half and first tally of the final period to make it 10-3.
Willis notched her career-high third goal to extend the lead to 13-3 with 15:34 to go.
Gettysburg finished with a 33-16 advantage in shots and a 13-6 lead in draw controls.
Keeler recorded a strong game in goal with 10 saves, three ground balls, and one caused turnover. Freshman Brooke Holechek (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) tallied two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Senior Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and Landry each finished with two goals and two assists. Connolly added three draw controls. Senior Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) recorded two goals, one assist, four ground balls, and two draw controls, while junior Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) and Borucki each tossed in two goals.
Jordy Bonvini posted a goal, one assist, and tw draw controls, while Sara Allison made 10 saves for Muhlenberg.
Gettysburg hosts Dickinson College on Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m.
