CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Fifth-ranked Gettysburg College held Washington College without a goal in the second half as the Bullets cruised to their eighth-straight victory with a 14-3 decision in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action Saturday.
Gettysburg (13-1, 7-0 CC) wrapped up one of the top two seeds in the upcoming conference playoffs with the win, but Washington (9-6, 4-3 CC), which defeated the Bullets in double overtime on its home turf two years ago, tested the visitors early. The Shorewomen tallied two of the first three goals with Cecily Docktor giving her team a 2-1 lead with 22:50 left in the first half.

Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester), sophomore
Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham), and senior
Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) went back-to-back-to-back in a span of just 26 seconds. Another score by Landry made it 5-2 with 16:53 to go before the break.
Washington's final goal of the game came with 13:26 before halftime. Gettysburg's defense locked down the Shorewomen over the remaining time, forcing 11 turnovers and allowing just three shots on goal. Junior
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) turned away all three would-be goals.
Gettysburg poured in the game's final nine tallies, including eight in the second half. Connolly and sophomore
Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) each turned in two goals during the final run.
Gettysburg out-shot Washington 29-14. The visitors also held advantages in ground balls (18-13) and draw controls (11-7).
It was another well-balanced scoring day for the Bullets with eight players hitting the back of the net. Connolly finished with four goals to go with two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Landry tallied a pair of goals and an assist, while Borucki and Welsh each produced two scores.
Keeler finished with five saves, three ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers. Junior
Katelyn Neillands (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) scooped up three ground balls, while classmate
Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) came away with two ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls.
Next up for Gettysburg is a showdown with fourth-ranked Franklin & Marshall College (15-1, 7-0 CC) on Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. on Clark Field. The winner will claim the top seed and home-field advantage in the Centennial playoffs. The Bullets and Diplomats have combined to win the last 14 conference titles and have hosted every CC Championship since 2003.
