Box Score

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Gettysburg College tossed in the first 11 goals and held No. 19 St. Mary's (Md.) College to just six shots as the fourth-ranked Bullets ran away with a 16-1 decision in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Seahawk Stadium.

Gettysburg (3-0) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, seizing the opening draw control and getting a goal by junior Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) 42 seconds into the game. The Bullets won each of the first six draw controls on the way to a 6-0 lead.

St. Mary's (3-2) won its first draw just over six minutes into the contest, but the Seahawks couldn't find the back of the net as Gettysburg goalie Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) posted one of her four first-half saves. Keeler did not allow a goal in her 30 minutes between the pipes as the Bullets cruised into the break with a 10-0 lead.

Sophomore Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) scored the opening goal of the second half to push the lead to 11-0. Gettysburg's defense held St. Mary's to just two shots in the final stanza with the first leading to the team's only goal with 19:34 left. Freshman Casey Cole (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) stopped the Seahawks' only other attempt with 1:51 to play.

Gettysburg dominated in shots (26-6) and draw controls (15-3), while connecting on 7-of-11 free-position attempts.

Welsh and senior Caroline Jaeger (Hampton, N.J./North Hunterdon) each tallied three goals, while Colson, senior Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich), and junior Katie Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) all scored a pair of goals. Colson and Christie each finished with three draw controls.

Junior Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) led the defense with three caused turnovers, three draw controls, and two ground balls. Sophomore Katrina Niedziela (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) scooped up two ground balls.

Gettysburg hosts Washington & Lee University next Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m.
