YORK, Pa. – The Bullets came up short in their final regular season meet of the season at York College of Pennsylvania this Saturday afternoon in a non-conference showdown.
Gettysburg (10-6) led 17-16 through the first eight matches but dropped the final two to lose 25-17 to the No. 14 ranked Spartans (13-2).
Senior Louie Carusillo (Pequannock, N.J./DePaul Catholic) put the Bullets on the board at 133 with a win by fall in the first period over York's Alex Hin. The Bullets followed up Carusillo's pin with back to back wins from freshman Sean Thompson (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) at 141 and sophomore Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) at 149. Thompson won by decision over Eric Schreck with a score of 8-3. Devlin then delivered a 15-0 tech fall over Verlensky Joachim in the second period to give the Bullets at 14-4 lead.
At 165, junior Colin Kowalski (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) captured his 33rd win of the season with 4-0 decision over Jesse Rocco putting Gettysburg up 17-7.
Two decision and a forfeit left the Bullets trailing 19-17 heading into the final match at heavyweight. After a scoreless first period, junior Paul Triandafilou (Derwood, Md./Georgetown Prep) sustained an injury late in the second period and was unable to complete match. A win by injury default was awarded to York's John Shorter which sealed the victory for the Spartans at 25-17.
The Bullets head to Rocky Mount, Va. next weekend (Feb. 23-24) for the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Ferrum College.
