GETTYSBURG, Pa. – For the first time in five years, Gettysburg College will serve as host of the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Championship beginning this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 23-24).
 
The Bullets took advantage of hosting rights in 2013, claiming the program's first-ever Centennial title. A large and boisterous crowd watched the Orange and Blue defeat Johns Hopkins University in the semifinals before edging out Swarthmore College 48-46 in the title game one day later.
 
Some familiar faces will join Gettysburg (23-2, 19-1 CC) in the five-team playoff field. The Bullets draw the winner of the Tuesday's first round game (7:30 p.m.) pitting Ursinus College (13-12, 10-10 CC) against Johns Hopkins University (16-9, 15-5 CC). Gettysburg will meet the first-round winner in Friday's first semifinal at 6 p.m. Muhlenberg College (22-3, 17-3 CC), which has won the last three championships, will face off with Haverford College (20-5, 16-4 CC) in the semifinals at 8 p.m.
 
The two advancing teams will compete for the conference title Saturday at 5 p.m. with the winner claiming an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
 
This weekend's field feature teams that have combined to win 18 of the Centennial's 24 championships, including each of the last seven. Muhlenberg leads the way with 10 titles followed by Johns Hopkins (4) and Ursinus (2). Haverford and Gettysburg have each won the postseason event once.
 
Ticket prices for this weekend's event are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 13-18. There will be no charge for children 12 and under and students from participating schools will be admitted free with a college ID.
