No. 1 Gettysburg Races Past Stevenson

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Kate Landry (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) posted seven points and scored the 200th of her career to lead the top-ranked Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team to a 21-3 non-conference decision over Stevenson University Saturday at Clark Field.

Gettysburg (2-0) scored the game's first 14 goals and forced a running clock just over 11 minutes into the game. Eleven Bullets reached the scoring column with senior Katie Willis (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) paving the way with a career-high five goals. Sophomore Liza Barr (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and freshman Kerry McKeever (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) each tallied hat tricks with the first-year also dishing out two assists.

Landry scored a pair of goals and handed out five assists. Her helper to Barr with 8:02 left in the first half marked the 200th point of her career. The senior is the 14th Bullet to reach the milestone and she also moved into fifth on the program's career assist list with 92.

Gettysburg dominated from the outset with junior Steph Colson (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley) scoring at 28:46 and McKeever tossing in her first goal 14 seconds later. Back-to-back tallies by Willis made it 6-0 just over six minutes into the contest.

The defense held Stevenson (0-3) to just three shots and two successful clears in the first half. Following an interception by senior Maggie Welsh (Rye, N.H./Holy Child), Landry found Willis in front of the cage for a 10-0 lead with 17:37 left in the first half.

Gettysburg held a 16-1 lead at the break and following an exchange of goals to start the final period, five different Bullets reached the scoring column in a 5-0 streak, including the first career goals by freshmen Maddy Ruffini (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Bri Stokes (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional).

The Orange and Blue finished with advantages in shots (29-8), ground balls (14-7), and draw controls (14-11).

Junior Lauren Cole (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) scored a pair of goals for Gettysburg. Seniors Cassie Smith (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and Ali Gorab (Southport, Conn./Ludlowe) each posted a pair of caused turnovers to lead the defense. Colson picked up five draw controls and sophomore Courtney Patterson (Whitehouse Station, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) scored a goal and corralled six draw controls.

Junior Bailey Pilder (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) made the start in goal and stopped the only shot she saw at the cage in 20 minutes. Sophomore Casey Cole (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) added a pair of saves in 24 minutes and sophomore Abbie Lee (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) made one save over the final 14:55.
