Men’s Lax Pulls Away in Fourth Quarter to Beat Haverford

Harvey Scores Four Goals; Fulgione Goes 14-for-18 on Face-Offs

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg outscored Haverford 5-0 in the fourth quarter and the Bullets rolled to their seventh-straight victory, topping the Fords 11-5 on Senior Day in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
 
With the win, the Bullets (13-1, 6-0 CC) clinched their 18th-consecutive CC playoff berth.
 
For the second game in a row, Gettysburg yielded just one goal in the second half, when it outscored the Fords 6-1.
 
Junior Jack Harvey (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) tied a career-high with four goals to lead the Bullets while junior Andrew Garstka (Springfield, Va./Paul VI Catholic) scored twice.  Senior Geoff Fulgione (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) had a big game at the X for Gettysburg, going 14-for-18 on face-offs while adding seven ground balls and a one goal.
 
Senior goalie Tim Brady (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) turned aside 11 shots while senior defenseman Cullen Minion (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) posted three caused turnovers.
 
Patrick Girard scored two goals to lead the Fords (5-7, 2-4 CC) while Dylan Slack made 10 saves.
 
Haverford netted the game's first two goals and led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Bullets answered with a 3-0 run at the start of the second period. Garstka buried back-to-back tallies before Harvey struck for the first time, handing Gettysburg its first lead of the game at 4-3 with 6:47 on the clock.
 
Stephen DeLeo tied it for the Fords with 1:24 left in the opening half, but Harvey answered with a big goal for the Bullets, picking up a ground ball and scoring 12 seconds after the ensuing face-off to give his team a 5-4 advantage at the intermission.
 
Harvey made it three goals in a row for the Bullets when he scored with 5:21 left in the third quarter, but Haverford pulled to within one again with 2:06 remaining and it was a 6-5 game heading into the final period.
 
Five different Bullets scored during Gettysburg's game-ending run, started with a goal from Fulgione just seven seconds into the stanza. Harvey, sophomore long-stick midfielder Eric Carr (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Academy of the New Church), sophomore Michael McCormick (Lorton, Va./Paul VI Catholic), and freshman Jack Fletcher (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) all struck as the Bullets pulled away for their ninth-straight win over Haverford dating back to 2011.
 
Gettysburg now takes 10 days off before hosting McDaniel on Wednesday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m. in another Centennial Conference tilt.
