HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata College won the final match at sixth singles to clinch a 5-4 victory over Gettysburg College in non-conference men's tennis action on Thursday.
 
Senior Kevin Maier (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) improved to 8-1 in doubles action this season after earning an 8-3 victory alongside sophomore Tommy Gilio (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) at No. 2 for Gettysburg (5-4). Juniata (5-0) stole in front with wins in the final two doubles bouts, including an 8-7 (7-3) decision at No. 1.
 
The Eagles held on to the team scoring lead with wins at first and fifth singles, but the Bullets remained within striking distance with back-to-back wins by Maier and junior Mike Mills (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth). Maier posted a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 3, while Mills came out on top over Roy Liberman 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2. Gilio improved to 6-2 in singles action by claiming a second-set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) decision at the fourth flight.
 
Matthew Munoz clinched the team win for Juniata with a 6-2, 6-3 win over sophomore Patrick Bodovitz (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) at sixth singles.
 
Gettysburg opens Centennial Conference play against No. 31 Swarthmore College Saturday at 1 p.m.
