Erik Wortmann (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) fired his second career complete game and freshman
Andrew Decker (Baltimore, Md./Towson) and junior
Ryan Augustus (Freehold, N.J./Princeton Day School) each drove in two runs as Gettysburg College closed the regular season with an 8-4 non-conference victory at Juniata College on Monday.
Wortmann fired the first nine-inning complete game for Gettysburg (17-20) this season. The sophomore right-hander allowed four runs on 11 hits, while posting five strikeouts.
The Bullets spotted their hurler a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Junior
Ryan LaCoe (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) reaching base on a single down the left-field and freshman
Mark Seibert (Yardley, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) drew a two-out walk. Augustus brought home both runners with a two-bagger to center field.
Leading 2-1 entering the fourth inning, Gettysburg tacked on two more runs with the first coming home on a double to left-center by sophomore
Harry Quimby (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill). After advancing to third on a groundout, Quimby came home on a balk by the pitcher.
Juniata (10-25) managed to tie the game on a two-run homer by Sam Craig in the fourth inning and an RBI groundout by Adam Kipp in the seventh.
The Bullets surged past the Eagles with four runs in their final two at bats. Seibert pushed his team in front with a run-scoring single in the eight. Junior
Joe Giovinco (Stirling, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) led off the ninth with a triple and came right home on a double by freshman
Matthew Muir (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames). Both Muir and freshman
Reid Gesualdi (Stamford, Conn./King), who drew a walk, raced home on another two-bagger by Decker to set the final score.
Decker finished 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Augustus went 2-for-5 with a hit-by-pitch and two RBI. Seibert reached base in all five of his plate appearances, posting a hit and drawing a walk and three hit-by-pitches. Sophomore
Sean Murphy (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) extended his streak of reaching base safely to 42 games with a walk in the eighth inning.
