How It Happened…
- First Quarter
- It was a slow start offensively for both teams with only one goal in the opening period. Kolen provided the strike, tossing in a pass from Cooper with less than 10 minutes left. Lugo posted four saves to keep the Bullets off the board.
- Second Quarter
- MacMillan logged five stops in the early minutes of the quarter and the offense responded by converting on the other end of the field. Senior Michael McCormick (Lorton, Va./Paul VI Catholic) turned in the first tally, while Fletcher fired in his first goal of the game on a feed from McCormick at 9:16.
- Matt Woodson put Goucher on the board not long after and following four-straight stops by Lugo, the Gophers pulled within a goal following a shot by Jared Heath. The teams turned in three goals in the final 1:12 with the Bullets tacking on two to jump in front 5-3 at halftime.
- Third Quarter
- After winning the first face-off of the second half, freshman Kyle Howard (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) kicked off the scoring off a feed from Fletcher. The Bullets were off and running after that as Cooper hit back-to-back scores to make it an 8-3 advantage at the 10-minute mark.
- MacMillan completely stonewalled the Gophers, posting seven saves in the period, including two in the final 64 seconds as Gettysburg took a 10-3 lead.
- Fourth Quarter
- The Bullets put the game out of reach early in the final stanza with three quick goals, including two by Fletcher. Cooper dished the assist on Fletcher's final goal which made it 13-3 with 11:45 remaining. Senior Chris Crowley (Madison, N.J./DelBarton) polished off the victory with a pair of saves in the final seconds.
By the Numbers
- Gettysburg led in shots (43-36), ground balls (32-21), and face-off wins (13-7).
- Over the last two games, the Bullets have out-scored the opposition 17-1 in the second half. Gettysburg held Messiah without a goal for the final 27 minutes last Saturday and blanked Goucher for just over 30 minutes Wednesday.
- MacMillan topped his previous personal high for saves by eight. His save total was the most by a Gettysburg goalie since Jon Maddalone '14 posted 23 against Washington in 2014.
- Kolen slid past Neill Mitchell '83 for eighth on the Bullets' career list for goals. The senior attackman now has 130 goals and needs eight more to catch Pete Milliman '02.
- Wykoff went over 250 ground balls for his career. The senior defenseman now has 253 in his quest to become the fourth Bullet to reach 300.
Where the Series Stands
Gettysburg improved to 10-0 against Goucher. The Bullets have won each of the last seven contests against the Gophers by six goals or more.
