Delaware Valley's Top Performers
  • Cody Brown – 1-2

Game Summary
  • Decker set the tone with a lead-off double and came around to score on a single by senior Ryan LaCoe (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) in the first inning. Manieri smashed his first home run of the season in the next inning and the Bullets added two more runs in the third on a double by Giovinco and a sacrifice fly by Manieri for a 4-0 lead.
  • Wortmann was dealing in his second start of the season. He hit the third batter of the game before retiring each of the next 11 Aggies. Sitting with a comfortable 7-0 advantage, the junior right-hander finally surrendered the only base knock of the game to Brown with two outs in the fifth inning. Wortmann set down the next eight hitters to pick up his second win of the season and first career shutout.
  • The Bullets exploded for 10 runs in the sixth inning. Fifteen players went to the plate in the inning and accounted for eight hits, including three consecutive doubles by Murphy, Szczesny, and Giovinco that brought home a total of five runs and closed the scoring.

By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg's 20 hits were the most since the team posted 21 against Johns Hopkins on April 10, 2018. All nine starters recorded a base knock with five logging extra-base hits.
  • Murphy reached 100 career hits in his first at bat of the opener. The junior needed just 74 games to reach the mark and joined Giovinco as current Bullets in the club.
  • Wortmann posted his first shutout and third complete game of his career. He has not allowed an earned run in 13 innings this season. It was the first shutout and one-hitter by a Gettysburg hurler since Brad DeMartino '18 blanked Marywood over seven innings on March 16, 2018.

Game Two Rundown

Gettysburg's Top Performers
Delaware Valley's Top Performers
  • Hank Bielen: 2-3, Run
  • Garrett Zimmerman: 6 IP, 4 Hits, 3 ER, 3 Walks, 3 Strikeouts

Game Summary
  • The bats were quieter in game two with the teams combining for eight hits. Delaware Valley posted their first run of the day when Bielen led off the second inning with a double and came around to score on a groundout. After drawing a walk to lead off the third, Joey Lodato stole second base and came home on a single by Dan Hopkins to make it 2-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning.
  • After going down in order in the first two frames, the Bullets broke through in the third with freshman Matthew Peipher (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) stroking a one-out double. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases and LaCoe brought in the team's first run on a fielder's choice at second base.
  • Manieri set the stage for a lead change with a walk to open the fifth. After Peipher advanced the runner to second with a sacrifice, Augustus launched his first home run of the season to put Gettysburg in front 3-2.
  • Masteralexis faced the minimum over his final two innings of work, striking out three batters and having Peipher throw-out a would-be base stealer at second base. After a lead-off double in the sixth inning, Giovinco entered the game in relief for the first time in his career. He forced a fielder's choice at third to wipe out the lead runner and he retired the final five Aggies, including the last two by strikeout for his first career save.

By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg's four base hits marked its lowest total in a victory since the current statistical software was put into place in 2002. The previous low for hits in a victory over the last 18 years was five.
  • Giovinco made his first-ever appearance on the mound in his 102nd game at Gettysburg. He started all 102 of those games, primarily in the middle infield.
  • The pitching staff allowed only five total hits in the doubleheader. That's the least amount of hits allowed in a doubleheader since the team allowed five hits in a split with Baruch to open the 2015 campaign.

Where the Series Stands
Gettysburg and Delaware Valley met on the diamond for the first time in two decades. The Aggies won the first meeting 3-2 back in 2000.
