2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior defensive lineman
Alex Raimondo (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) proved he was a multi-skilled athlete time after time on the turf and he showed his prowess in the classroom as well by earning Academic All-District First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).
One day after being named All-Centennial Conference First Team, Raimondo took home his first academic award from CoSIDA. The senior was one of 27 players on the first team in District 4, which includes all Division III institutions in Pennsylvania.
As a first-team selection, Raimondo is now eligible for Academic All-America honors. Seven Bullets have been named Academic All-America in football with the most recent being safety
Justin Lessel '21 in 2020-21. The 2021 Academic All-America Team will be unveiled in December.
A health sciences major, Raimondo is Gettysburg's 13th Academic All-District selection since 2011. The senior lineman was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side, totaling 52 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, and seven quarterback hurries. He finished second in the Centennial in tackles for a loss and finished just 0.5 shy of the program's single-season record. He also placed in a tie for fourth in sacks among conference players.
After posting a career-high 12 tackles against McDaniel College on Senior Day, Raimondo logged eight tackles with five tackles for a loss against Franklin & Marshall College in the season finale. Aside from the defensive numbers, one of the highlights of the season for the senior was a 34-yard rush for a first down on a fake punt in a 48-42 win over Juniata College.
Despite playing just three full seasons, Raimondo finished among the program's all-time leaders in tackles for a loss (2nd, 36.5), quarterback sacks (5th, 19.0), yards from tackles for a loss (9th, 141), and yards from sacks (T-9th, 94). He totaled 106 tackles and 10 hurries over 28 career games.
