Men’s Tennis Falls at Washington in Season Opener

Washington edges Gettysburg 5-4

Chestertown, Md. – Washington College claimed four singles matches to get by visiting Gettysburg College 5-4 in the season opener in Centennial Conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon.
 
Singles competition
1. Landon Strober (WC) def. Alex Kagan (GCM) 6-0, 1-6, 6-2
2. Ian Hewes (WAC) def. Michael Zayneh (GCM) 6-4, 6-1
3. Andrew Province (WC) def. Zach LaChance (GCM) 6-0, 6-2

Match Recap
The Shoremen (2-2, 1-0 CC) took an early decision in doubles play at No. 2. The Bullets (0-1 CC) freshmen duo of Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy) answered right back to clinch their first collegiate win, 8-3, at the No. 1 flight.
 
Washington swept through the fourth, third, and second singles with the No. 1 going into a tiebreaker. Gettysburg almost claimed the win as Kagan battled at No. 1, but fell in a tiebreaker 6-0, 1-6, 6-2, to close out the day. Flights No. 5 and No. 6 were won by the Bullets due to forfeits. 
 
Where the Series Stands Now
The Shoremen are undefeated against the Bullets in the all-time series.

The Bullets welcome Muhlenberg College next Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.
