Chestertown, Md. – Washington College claimed four singles matches to get by visiting Gettysburg College 5-4 in the season opener in Centennial Conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon.

The Shoremen (2-2, 1-0 CC) took an early decision in doubles play at No. 2. The Bullets (0-1 CC) freshmen duo of
Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) and
Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy) answered right back to clinch their first collegiate win, 8-3, at the No. 1 flight.
Washington swept through the fourth, third, and second singles with the No. 1 going into a tiebreaker. Gettysburg almost claimed the win as Kagan battled at No. 1, but fell in a tiebreaker 6-0, 1-6, 6-2, to close out the day. Flights No. 5 and No. 6 were won by the Bullets due to forfeits.
