Kagan Earns Win against Ursinus

Ursinus downs Gettysburg 8-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshmen Alex Kagan (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) earned a victory at No. 1 singles for the Gettysburg College men's tennis team, but Ursinus College came away with an 8-1 team decision in a Centennial Conference match up Saturday afternoon.

Match Recap
Kagan and classmate Michael Zayneh (Hilton Head Island, S.C./Heritage Academy) narrowly missed a victory at the top doubles flight, but the Gettysburg first-years were outlasted by a pair of veteran seniors in Mason Groff and Matt Fontanese in an 8-7 (7-2) decision. The Bears battled to 8-5 and 8-4 wins at the remaining two doubles competitions.
 
Kagan extracted his revenge on Groff in singles action, downing the Bear senior 6-3, 6-4 and evening his singles record at 2-2 this spring. Zayneh was upended in a tiebreaker 7-6 in the first set against Fontanese at No. 2 and fell in the second set 6-3. Sophomore Matt Rau (Castle Pines, Colo./Regis Jesuit) just missed adding a second point on the board with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 setback to Rob Ritchie at No. 6.
 
Where the Series Stands Now
Gettysburg leads the all-time series 21-10, but Ursinus has won the last eight meetings.
