Swarthmore, Pa. - Swarthmore College outscored No. 11 Gettysburg College 6-1 in the third quarter to seize control of Saturday's Centennial Conference men's lacrosse game at Clothier Field on its way to a 14-10 victory.

The Garnet (7-5, 1-3 CC) and Bullets (8-4, 3-1 CC) went goal-for-goal over the first 38-plus minutes of Saturday's contest, swapping the lead five times with neither side holding a lead of greater than one goal during that span.

Sophomore
Quinton Mather (Avon, Conn./Avon Old Farm), who gave Gettysburg a 6-5 lead at halftime by scoring 14 seconds before the break, netted his second tally of the day with 13:47 remaining in the third quarter to give the Bullets a 7-6 edge.

Swarthmore countered with a decisive, five-goal run that gave the Garnet an 11-7 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Goals from seniors
Griffin Gallagher (Ardmore, Pa./Shipley School) and
Spencer Knife (Venice, Calif./Winston Churchill) brought Gettysburg to within two at 11-9 with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation. Â

The hosts answered with the next three markers to hold a comfortable 14-9 lead with less than a minute showing on the clock before Knife completed his hat trick in the closing seconds to cap the scoring.

For the game, Swarthmore outshot Gettysburg 41-32 while holding a 39-32 edge in groundballs and an 18-9 advantage in face-offs won.
