THE REST OF THE STORY
• On the game's opening possession, Dickinson moved the ball 10 yards on its first three plays before Presley Egbers hit Bobby Markey over the top for a 65-yard touchdown and 7-0 lead just 1:37 into the game. After the teams traded three-and-outs, Gettysburg methodically moved the ball 45 yards in 11 plays that included five runs and five passes before
Rocco Abdinoor (Edgewater, Md./St. Mary's Annapolis) scrambled to his left and dove for the pylon for a four-yard score, tying the game after the PAT with 5:26 to play in the opening quarter.
• Dickinson was driving early in the second quarter before
Matt Mikulka knocked the ball free and
Arthur Stubbs (Ewing, N.J./Lawrence) came out of the pile with the ball for the game's only turnover. Taking over at their own four-yard line, a heavy dose of
Michael Zrelak (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury), who ran the ball six times for 45 yards on the drive, moved the ball to the Red Devil 25. Abdinoor hit
Ryan Furey (Belle Meade, N.J./Montgomery) on an out route for a touchdown and 14-7 lead with 16:13 to play in the half. Dickinson responded with a five-play, 49-yard drive that Egbers capped with an eight-yard touchdown pass to Diante Ball with 3:25 to play. The Red Devils put together another nine-play, 57-yard drive that ended with a 16-yard Devlin McCool touchdown grab in the back of the endzone with 17 ticks remaining in the period, taking a 21-14 lead into the half.
• After the teams spent the third quarter trading punts, Gettysburg put together a 15-play drive that started with 5:47 to play in the third quarter. Facing a third-and-9 to start the fourth quarter at the Dickinson 27, an incomplete pass forced a field goal attempt.
Rob Meyer (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) poked the seventh-longest field goal in program history and career-long 44-yarder to cut the deficit to four. Dickinson once again responded after an onside kick attempt went out of bounds and set up the Red Devils at the Bullet 43. Six plays later, Egbers rushed seven yards around the left side for a 28-17 lead with 10:14 to play. Gettysburg needed just five plays on the next drive before a reverse to
Aidan Feulner turned into a 39-yard touchdown pass to
Ryan McAndrew. The Bullets went for two to get within a field goal and Abdinoor scrambled before finding Feulner at the pylon for the conversion with 8:38 remaining. The Gettysburg defense forced a three-and-out but a 41-yard
Luke Denison (Madison, N.J./Madison) return was negated by a holding call away from the return and Dickinson got its own three-and-out and was able to run out the final 4:13 of the game.
THE INSIDE STORY
• Dickinson finished with a 414-370 edge in total yards but Gettysburg outgained the Red Devils through the air, 235-146.
•
Leo Sattamini (Delaware Water Gap, Pa./Stroudsburg) averaged 44.8 yards on four punts, including unfurling a 65-yarder.
• For
Ryan McAndrew, the 131-yard receiving game was his third 100-yard game of the season.
