Gettysburg wraps up regular season with win

THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg outscored Swarthmore 18-5 in the fourth to seal a 61-43 win in the regular-season finale.

THE LEADERS
• Mackenzie Szlosek (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) led the Bullets with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
• Alayna Arnolie (Vienna, Va./James Madison) added 15 points.

FOR THE FOES
• Alyssa Hayashi was the only Garnet player to reach double figures with 11 points.

THE REST OF THE STORY
• Trailing 3-2 early, Gettysburg scored six straight points in 55 seconds to take an 8-3 edge with 7:07 on the clock in the first quarter. Swarthmore countered with six straight of its own for a 9-8 lead with 3:17 showing. The teams traded runs before a Mackenzie Szlosek driving layup in the waning seconds of the period gave the hosts a 15-14 advantage.
• Trailing 17-16 early in the second quarter, two Cynthia Williams (North Brunswick, N.J./Hill School) free throws sparked a 10-0 run over a 3-minute, 25-second span to open up a 26-17 lead en route to a 29-22 at the break.
• Swarthmore closed to within 40-38 before Gettysburg scored the final three points of the quarter to stretch the lead back to five.
• Two Szlosek baskets helped extend the run to nine straight. An Alyssa Hayashi 3-pointer was the only interruption in what became an 18-3 run that gave the Bullets a 58-41 lead with 4:16 to play.

THE INSIDE STORY
• Caitlin Priore (Holland, Pa./Germantown Academy) finished with six blocked shots. She also added eight rebounds as part of a 54-31 advantage on the glass.
• Gettysburg is the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament and will host the winner of Tuesday's first-round game between Dickinson and Washington.
