THE SKINNY STORY
Gettysburg had eight competitors at the National Guard Mideast Futures hosted by Muhlenberg.

THE LEADERS
• Simon Taylor (Alexandria, Va./Woodberry Forest School) notched an 8-1 win over Billy Bumbarger (Penn College) in the first round at heavyweight. Simon then fell to Muhlenberg's Andrew Franklin late I the second period. In the consolation bracket, he edged Nate Rourke (St. John Fisher) 3-1 in the first sudden victory period. Taylor then added a major decision win over York's John Farrell 25-11 and a second sudden victory, topping Austin Stewart (McDaniel) 3-1 to advance to the third-place bout. Taylor finished fourth after falling to Nick Franco (Brockport), 16-0.

• Oscar Winch (Lawrence Twp., N.J./Montgomery) recorded one victory on the day, earning a forfeit victory in the opening round of the consolation bracket at 157.
• Justin Rhyne (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) opened his day at 184, recording a 2-minute, 26-second pin of Wilkes' Alexis Perez before falling to the consolation bracket with a 3-0 loss to Muhlenberg's Fletcher Goodman. In the consolation bracket, Rhyne pinned St. John Fisher's Nate Coon in 1:23 and defeated Cory Martin (York) by decision, 10-3. Rhyne then advanced after an injury default at the end of the first period and medically forfeited to Wilkes' John DeVito.
